Depression and Anxiety Addiction
Modern psychiatry/psychology that involves diagnosing you with a mental defect that is beyond your control i.e., genetic, and requires symptom treatment and long term counseling to manage. Examples I would like to address in this article are, Anxiety, depression, rage, and fear, and excitement, or what they would call being "manic."
I'm not debating that it is provable through the study of brain chemistry that a person's brain would demonstrate certain chemical markers for depression or, bipolar, etc. involving serotonin, dopamine, etc. What I'm suggesting is that is all after the fact. It's the study of what the brain looks like after you make the CHOICE either consciously or unconsciously, to choose to be depressed, or to have anxiety, etc. The choice does get made over and over like a rut you are stuck in the brain. But the area I work with clients on is in the realm of choice, where all great miracles happen. You do first have to let go of the story that you are defective, that your brain is somehow broken and needs chemicals to sustain you. All this gives you is a lifetime as a defective person with a "story" to tell about the name of your defects and its inherent limitations and the drug you must continue to take or be a mental/emotional cripple for life.
There is a process by which you go through to make yourself depressed. There are thoughts you think and rituals you go through, and they are the same every time. My work seeks to create a pattern interrupt to the brain at the moment right before you choose to take that step. And make another choice. Create new pathways in the brain and use those. You do have to give up the old way to start the new.
Anxiety involves living in the future. The problem is that you can't make choices in the future. So for my work to help you, you have to be willing to stop living in the future and join me in the present moment. THe chemicals involved in choosing anxiety, or depression, or fear, or hypomania, as a few examples of psychological states, are highly addictive brain chemicals and your finger is on the button all the time. You don't have to go and pay for or "score" one of these drugs. They are available to you anytime right in your own brain. There are withdrawals to be faced when you start to face, penetrate, and stop your addiction and dependence on a brain chemical and the story about it. You can change the chemical state of you brain. You ae not a permanent, perpetual victim of your biology and have far more power than you've been led to believe to change yourself. Depression chemicals work like opiates. Fear from adrenaline, like your own personal supply of crack available 24/7. This is addiction identification at a subtler level and the enlightenment process involves the identification of subtler and subtler addiction. But the addiction is always to suffering.
I invite you to experience the joy that is your true nature.
