How You Should Look at Hip Replacement

Hip replacement is a surgical procedure which is generally carried out when the parts of the hip joint are diseased or damaged and need to be replaced. The procedure involves parts of the hip joint being removed and replaced with new, artificial parts to relieve pain and help improve mobility.

There could be a number of reasons that promote the wearing down of the hip joint. The effects you may feel may include persistent joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, loss of mobility etc. Prior to going for the surgery, your doctor may try other medications in addition to some physical therapy. He or she may also advise you to use a cane. If these therapies work and achieve the purpose, then surgery may not be needed. Personally, I have always felt that one should always be very careful when the question is of artificial parts.

Hip replacement is an option to be considered if persistent pain and disability interfere with your daily life. Before a doctor recommends the surgery, however, the joint damage should be visible through x rays. The doctor may also suggest corrective surgery that is less complex than the former. The goal of this surgery is to restore the joint to its correct position, which helps to distribute weight evenly in the joint. The procedure may also help some patients to recover. However, the process can take anywhere from 6 months to a year.

In the past, hip replacement surgery was only considered when the patient was over 60 years of age. Generally, older people are less active and therefore put lesser strain on the artificial hip than do younger, more active people. In recent years, however, doctors have found that the surgery in question can be very successful in younger people as well.

New technology has improved the age of artificial parts, allowing them to withstand more stress and strain. However, one should consider factors other than age of the person in determining the success of the replacement in the overall health and activity level of the patient.

Over time the techniques used in hip replacement have also undergone change. There is the traditional hip replacement and anterior hip replacement. Both these approaches can be applied on almost all patients' and are just as successful. Technology has allowed smaller incisions with lesser scarring and lesser pain too. The time period taken by the surgical and the recovery process has also been reduced.

What Causes Body Odor?

As a myth many believe that sweat causes the unpleasant smell coming from your body. The fact is that our sweat has no odor of its own. The foul smell is constituted only when it gets in contact with the bacteria which are surfaced on your body. Several things can constitute for the causes of the body odor. Body sprays and deodorants are temporary short lived solutions to combat it. One has to look beyond the obvious to find out the actual remedy for body odor.

Scientifically it has been proven the body odor helps in dividing your whole body emotionally and physically. There are about 2.5 million sweat glands in your body acting as tiny air-conditioners to keep the temperature of your body in moderation. In a more generic term you can see sweat as a thermostat working in conjunction with your body temperature helping it to cool down when you get anxious, tensed and sometimes depressed.

There are several reasons which combine together to generate odor coming from your body. Some are as follows:

- Uncommon Genetic conditions constituting towards sweating which later results in bad odor.
- Unhygienic living conditions, like irregular bathing patterns, dirty clothes, less usage of toiletries and sometimes unawareness in rural areas.
- Eczema or psoriasis or some skin allergy or fungal infection can be the cause of bad odor.
- Medication used for kidney, hypoglycaemia and liver ailments can also contribute in generating bad odor.
- Deficiency of zinc mineral, cavities, toxins, etc is also one of the reasons.
- Another cause is smoking or alcohol consumption.
- Low level of male hormones, menopause, and gastrointestinal problems along with weak metabolism is a general constituent for bad odor.

In summers due to warm temperature your body is bound to produce more sweat thus generating bacterial infections leading to the bad odor.

Health Should Not Depend on Disposable Income

Health is something that we need no matter what we do in life. Without health, life is not what it should be and in many cases, it ceases to exist all together. Health is important whether you are rich, poor or anywhere in between.

While health is important to the rich and to the poor alike, it shouldn't depend on which category you fall into. There is no real connection between the amount of money you have and your health. At least there shouldn't be. Unfortunately, many have let this factor become a reason for their health to take a back seat. Others have simply missed opportunities or simply didn't have them in the first place due to their economic situation.

I'm not talking about those people. There is a problem in our country, and throughout the world for that matter, that has created more health issues for those with less. That is not something I am going to deny or even argue. What I will argue is that being healthy doesn't have to cost more money.

I recently had a conversation with someone that was planning to change their health in the near future. Their plan was not to start exercising more or eating different foods. Their plan was to increase their financial standing by selling more of the products that they were paid to sell. The theory was that when they earned more, their diet and exercise would improve too.

The plan was as follows: once they earned enough, they could purchase a gym membership or even home equipment so that they could start exercising. They also said that once their budget was bigger, they would purchase healthier foods and stop eating fast food.

The theory was that they were not doing healthy things because they cost too much. The eating choices they made were based on price and their exercise was not regular because of the lack of resources they could afford. It makes sense, in theory, that they would be able to do these things if they had a budget for them. I get that, but I also get the fact that there are many options for many budgets.

Exercise

It doesn't cost anything to go for a walk. It is free to walk down the sidewalk. You can even run if you want to. You can do push-ups, sit-ups and any number of exercises in your home or in your office as many of my clients have discovered.

Even if you have no money, there are exercises that can help you live healthy and feel better.

Nutrition

This is the tricky one. I constantly hear about how expensive it is to eat healthy. I also hear about how everyone would eat better if it didn't costs so much. Honestly, this is one of the most frustrating conversations for me to have.

Food comes in many forms and is available in many places. Is it more expensive to have a private chef preparing natural meals for you every day than it is to eat fast food? Of course it is, but it is NOT cheaper to eat at a restaurant (fast-food or otherwise) than it is to prepare food at home. Grocery stores offer great deals on healthy foods and purchasing wisely can help you take your food dollar further and further the more you plan your meals.

You can buy food and prepare it for you and your family and spend less than you would by going to fast food restaurants every day.

Again, when it comes to global access and local availability, I see that economics does become a factor. If you live in a neighborhood that only has fast food and convenience stores it is more difficult and thus more expensive to get fruits and vegetables regularly. I also understand that if you can't afford a membership, you can't go to a gym. They won't let you work out there without a membership and in many cases, there may not be an option near you if you live in a certain part of town.

These are all valid reasons for some of our health problems. These issues are being addressed by many at government, corporate and community levels. Hopefully we are on the right track to improving them with programs, education and awareness. These issues, while causing many problems are not causing all of the damage.

The damage of poor health habits is being caused more by excuses than by economics. Above we talked about ways you can exercise and eat better no matter what your financial situation looks like. Keep this in mind when you are thinking that eating healthy is expensive:

A bag of chips: $3.00 for a large bag of your average chip. This bag is going to provide you with enough calories to feed an elephant, but will barely provide you with any actual nutrition.

A loaf of whole-grain bread can cost you as little as $2.00. You can purchase lean meat for a few dollars a pound. Lettuce, a tomato and even some peppers can be purchased for a few dollars. How many sandwiches can you make for the cost of that $3.00 bag of chips? When you break it down, it is quite a few and each of these sandwiches provides you with real nourishment that takes you further than an entire bag of chips can...without the empty, excess calories.

When it comes to exercise, it is easy to say that if you had more money, you would work out more. That is the excuse I hear most, second only to "more time". Sure, if we all had a live-in personal trainer, it would be easier to exercise. The point is, we don't need that. The best exercise can come from the simplest and cheapest methods. Walking, running, playing with kids or doing calisthenics is all you need.

The problem in today's society is not money. The problem is priority. The priority is not on health. We want to be healthy, but we are not making it a priority. A raise or a bonus will not help you make health a priority. On that same note, your current salary or title is not making you unhealthy. You are doing that on your own now and you will continue to do it no matter how much money you make.

It doesn't have to be this way. If we can trade the excuses for actions, we can finally see that it is the excuses that cause health issues, not the economics. In fact, the lack of priority on health is actually causing economic issues, not the other way around.

If you think that your health routine is suffering because of money, do something that doesn't cost anything. If you think it's too expensive to change, ask yourself what it will cost you if you don't change.

- Introduce more of green vegetables and fruits along with curd in your meals and avoid fatty, spicy and oily junk food.

- Take supplements of nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin-B complex, vitamin C and zinc.

- Intake of wheat grass or chlorophyll in your daily supplement of nutrients will help to a great deal.

- Sprinting white or apple cider vinegar on odorous areas, then wiping the area dry, can help eliminate offensive smells.

- Use natural sterilizer's like tea tree oil or witch hazel in your armpits; they can help to great extent as they are natural antiseptics.

- Avoid caffeine, aerated drinks, alcohol, and cigarettes on all occasions.

- Some spices like garlic and onion also give birth to foul smell; hence you can restrict their use at times.

- Parsley has anti-bacterial properties in its chlorophyll which helps in reducing body odor and it also has zinc which is again a great agent.

- Rosemary also contains anti-bacterial properties and is used by many cosmetic companies worldwide in the manufacturing of their products.

All the Remedy for body odor mentioned so far can make you appear more fresh and confident because the fear of bad odor will vaporise with time and the change in the outlook of the people around will only make you surprised and happy. Body Odor Treatment

In a layman's language by diffusing the multiplication of bacteria on the surface of your skin, the problem of bad body odor can be solved. Several medical conditions at times are responsible to bring about a typical smell in the sweat like a fruity smell can sometimes indicate diabetes and bleach like smell can indicate liver or kidney dysfunction. Apocrine glands are primarily located in the armpit area. Hence by keeping these clean and dry you can find a cure for body odor. In today's fast pace life everyone wants to look good and make a mark for themselves and not everyone is willing to spend a lot of money on expensive cosmetic items to get rid of bad body odor.

This problem is usually faced when you take public transport to travel to work or from one place to another. By the time you reach the destination, you will be dripping with sweat. No matter how much you may have dressed up but you may end up looking dull and if you have bad odor it makes things worse. Hence they visit the dermatologists with only one question on their mind as to how to cure body odor? There are some short term and long term solutions given by the practitioners to the patients to deal with the problem on a daily basis.

Medically one remedy for body odor is aluminium chloride; it is an active ingredient in most antiperspirants. It helps to prevent the production of sweat when used regularly for some time. Roll-on antiperspirants tend to be more effective in heavy sweating cases. Aluminium chloride solutions include Anhydrol Forte and Driclor. They can be usually applied every night before you go to bed, and then wash it off in the morning. By doing this you can stop sweating while you are sleeping, for the whole night the solution can seep into your sweat glands and block them. This reduces your sweating for the next day. As and when the product starts to take effect, you can reduce its usage -every other night or once or twice a week. A general practitioner or a pharmacist can advise you best on the various products available in the market.

Last but not the least in acute odor cases there are some more advanced treatment people opt for, below mentioned are the techniques used by experienced practitioners.

- Surgery is also performed in the armpit areas where in a small patch of skin along with the tissue is removed to destroy the most active sweat glands, helping to minimise the sweating.
- Liposuction therapy is also used to draw out the sweat glands from the deeper skin areas.
- Another surgery is a type called as endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, which uses keyhole surgery technique to destroy the nerves that control sweating. A tiny incision (cut) is made into your underarm, through which a thin electrode is passed and electrical current used to kill off the nerves responsible for excess sweating.
- "Botox" its full form is Botulinum toxin is fairly new concept especially for those who experience very heavy sweating under their arms. It is a very powerful poison used in minimal doses.
- Approximately 10-12 injections are injected in the patient's body especially in the affected areas like armpit, hands, face and feet, total time required is 30-45 minutes. The poison or toxin acts as a blocking agent and restrict signals taken from the brain to the sweat glands, hence reducing the amount of sweat produced.
- The effect of these injections might last from 2-8 months varying from person to person and post that you will have to take a similar session again. This treatment is not advisable for everyone and it is also costly.

Body Brush for a Better Detox

Ever wondered why some people's skin glow, or why they radiate health? Of course a healthy diet and positive outlook help, but regular dry skin brushing also plays an important role by removing toxins from your body. Especially when combined with a raw food detox.

Just like the kidneys and liver, the skin is an organ in your body that eliminates waste. Even without frequent brushing it discharges more than a pound of waste products each day. That's the weight of a small bag of sugar. Regular body brushing promotes detoxification by improving circulation and encouraging lymphatic drainage. It can also improve the appearance of your skin.

Regular body brushing helps to:

Stimulate Circulation - Dry skin brushing can help to tighten the skin by increasing the flow of blood. Improving the circulation to the skin can also help lessen the appearance of cellulite. Always use a proper long-handled body brush made with natural bristles. Synthetic ones can damage the skin.

Improve Lymphatic Flow - Brushing in long, sweeping movements towards the heart helps improve lymphatic flow. By brushing in this way we help to transport toxins to the lymph nodes so the body can effectively remove them. Removing the toxins can give you more energy, sharper focus and help you stay in good physical shape.

Enhance Skin Appearance - As the skin cells move to the surface of the skin, they die. But in times of less moisture such as winter, it can take the skin more time to shed dry, dead cells. By body brushing you help to shed the cells and improve skin texture and cell renewal. Dry skin brushing also helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.

How to brush:

Start brushing before you have a bath or shower - you want to remove the dead skin cells after you brush. Apply gentle pressure to the skin using upwards movements, so from the hands to under the arms and the feet towards the groin. Don't worry if your skin goes a little red (known as erythema). This shows your circulation is being stimulated, and is normal.

Top tips:

1. Clean your body brush using soap and water once a week and dry it properly to prevent mildew.

2. Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken.

3. Following your brush, massage your skin with pure plant oil such as almond, jojoba, sesame or coconut.

4. Consider a raw food detox for ultimate detoxing.

Enjoy!

Medical Tourism in Mexico - A Growing Business

Medical Tourism is the ever-growing and popular practice of traveling to another country for expert medical care and surgical procedures. In late 2010, medical tourism to Mexico was noted as one of the fastest growing segments of the medical tourism business.

The demand for affordable quality health care historically brought many Americans to Mexico for many years. Now, with increased costs for health care in the United States looming in the not-too- distant future, more and more Americans are opting for an affordable health care option. Add to that the surging numbers of unemployed who are uninsured or under-insured in the United States and you have another category of people who seek cost-saving, quality medical care south of the border.

The procedures that are popular among medical tourism patients are heart surgery, orthopedic procedures, eye surgery, weight loss surgery and cosmetic surgery as a result of specialty care in Mexico for less out-of-pocket expense.

After years of minimal development growth in the sector of private hospitals in Mexico, the demand created by Americans through medical tourism has expanded the construction of private hospitals by double digits. This boom has spread from large hospitals to medical clinics featuring state of the art equipment, many of which are compared to the best in the world.

The increased demand for medical tourism also points to the affordability of medical care and surgery in Mexico. Overall costs, including medical testing, are notably at about 30% to 60% less of what it would cost for treatment and testing in a medical facility in the United States for any major medical condition.

The physicians and staff in hospitals designated for medical tourism in Mexico are educated in the best medical schools that Mexico has to offer. In fact, Mexican doctors are very proficient in procedures either recently approved or not yet approved by the FDA in the United States. This is an important feature for patients needing advanced specialty medical care not yet available in the U.S. In many instances, the advanced medical treatment in Mexico can cut time needed for convalescing in half.

Medibal tourists will be pleased to learn that many state-of-the-art hospitals are located in Mexico. Most noted locations are in Guadalajara, Mexico City, Queretaro, Hermosillo and Merida in the Yucatan. One of the notable hospital groups in Mexico is CIMA, owned by the International Hospital Corporation, an American company, with locations throughout Mexico.

Before you venture into the world of medical tourism, it is suggested you do a good amount of research. The reputable medical tourism companies will have a medical team and a nursing team that can guide you through the process and help you select just the right doctor and hospital for your procedure. Usually, your transportation and lodging expenses are included in the medical tour package.

Generally, most physicians and staff treating medical tourism patients speak English. If they are not proficient in English,a full service medical tourism company will provide a translator. Most of these tourism companies provide the benefit of doing all of the work for you at a fraction of the cost and effort of working with your local HMO or medical provider.

If you are in a medical bind and need specialty medical attention, don't give up. Make sure to investigate all of your options with Mexico medical tourism at the top of your list. You may be able to get healthy, afford a long weekend at the beach and have the best medical treatment you ever thought or imagined you could have anywhere as close to home, just south of the border, in Mexico.

Even Truck Drivers Can Reverse Diabetes - Part II

In part I, I gave a little history of myself in preparing the reader for the information that is to come in this part and a following part III. My history is important because so many Dr.'s and nutritionist cause us to believe that unless you quit smoking, drinking coffee, and start exercising, as well as doing a healthy diet that diabetes is not reversible. I am sure the good folks that do care about us don't intend to overwhelm us with all the recommended changes, but I can tell you in my experience if I had to do all of those things I would have been doomed to failure since I hate exercise, love coffee and have a two pack a day plus cigarette habit, in fact I did quit smoking for a year and a half and it didn't help my diabetes so I am not sure that is a wise recommendation when it did increase my stress level.

It is important to understand that in a truck drivers life most days consist of moving from the drivers seat, to the bunk, ( a distance of about 18 to 30 inches ) and back, with an occasional walk to the restroom or fuel stop cashiers desk, far less exercise than the average, other than truck driver employment. It is possible to find time for exercise if you want to but I don't.

I have used the term "reverse diabetes" in this series of articles rather than curing diabetes for some very important reasons. Reason one is, I believe that once diabetes is diagnosed in a person they will have it until the day they die, to reverse it means to me that I no longer am at risk for death from the disease because the condition that defines it is currently not present. What defines type 2 diabetes is an excess amount of blood sugar and it is this condition that leads to all the bad "side effects" of this disease, like heart disease, neuropathy, blindness and kidney failure, just to name a few.

To help understand why type 2 diabetes can be reversed and type 1 cannot we need to understand that outside of the name and the symptom of "too high blood sugars", there really is very little in common between the two types.

Type one diabetes is the bodies inability to produce insulin, a hormone that is important in providing energy to your bodies cells. In this type of diabetes the beta cells that produce insulin in your pancreas have been destroyed, once destroyed your body does not make new ones.

Type two diabetes is better defined as insulin resistance, meaning that your body may be producing sufficient insulin but the "work" the insulin is supposed to do is suppressed and there by prevented from using the sugar for energy (the reason exercise does help), this condition makes it's self worse because the insulin is also key in creating and storing fat. In my understanding, since new beta cells in the pancreas cannot be created, the insulin amount does not increase to compensate for increased body mass (more cells to service). So, in my understanding, obesity is the primary cause of type 2 diabetes. Solution - Drop the weight.

The American diet filled with empty calories, and excessive quantities of food to my mind and experience is the primary cause of this disease, part three will tell you what I did to reverse this deadly condition. Best news is it is simple.

Disorder of Difficulty in Reading and Writing

A number of disorders are known to affect human beings and dyslexia is one such disorder which is defined by different experts in different ways. The World Federation of Neurologists in 1968 defined dyslexia as a disorder common in children where despite the conventional classroom experience they fail to attain language skills of reading, writing and spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities. The U.S. National Institutes of Health explains dyslexia as a learning disability that hinders a person's ability to read, write, spell and sometimes to speak. This is a very common disability in children persisting throughout the life. The symptoms may range from mild to severe. If treated at very early stage favorable results are obtained but if neglected negative influences are noticed. Children with dyslexia are of average intelligence and always want to learn things. The disorder is caused by impairment in brain's ability to translate images received from brain or ears into understandable language. It is not a result of vision and hearing problems and also does not occur due to mental retardation, brain damage or lack of intelligence.

Dyslexia may remain hidden during the early grades of schooling. Sometimes the child becomes frustrated by the inability to read and other problems disguising dyslexia may also occur later. The child often shows symptoms of depression and self-low esteem. Behavior problems are common both at home as well as in school. The child may become unmotivated and hates going to school. The success of the child at the school is risky if dyslexia is neglected or left untreated.

Causes and Types

Different types of dyslexia are known that affect a child's ability to read, write and spell. Trauma dyslexia is the form of dyslexia that generally occurs after a traumatic brain injury where the area of brain controlling reading and writing is damaged. Its frequency is very rare among today's school going population. Second type of dyslexia is primary dyslexia which arises due to the dysfunction of the left side of brain and it persists throughout life. The children suffering from this type are rarely able to read above fourth-grade level and may struggle with reading, spelling and writing even after becoming adult. It is a gene-linked disorder and may be transferred to the children through parents. The frequency is more in boys than in the girls. Third type is the secondary or developmental dyslexia occurring due to hormonal imbalance during early stages of fetal development. This type generally diminishes when the child grows old and is more noticed among boys in comparison to girls. Dyslexia is known to affect many functions of the body. Visual dyslexia is identified by letter and number reversals and the inability to write symbols in proper sequence. Auditory dyslexia is characterized by difficulty with sounds of letters or groups of letters. The sounds of letters are received as jumbled or not heard properly. Dysgraphia is defined as child's inability to hold and control pencil in order to draw correct markings on a sheet of paper.

Signs and Symptoms

It is really difficult for the classroom teachers to detect whether the child is suffering from dyslexia or not. They can only detect the signs and advise the parents of the child to consult a psychologist or a health professional in order to diagnose the disease or other mental disability associated with the child. Reversal of numbers and letters is the most preliminary symptom of the disorder. Such reversals are very common among the children of age group 7-8 years and generally diminish by that time. If the signs do not diminish it clearly indicates that the child has dyslexia. Difficulty in copying the content from the blackboard or book also indicates towards this disorder. General disorganization of the general class work may also be noticed. The child is not able to remember the contents of his or her favorite video and storybook. Problems noticed in the classroom learning may also be observed during the playground activities. The child may be uncoordinated and finds difficult to associate himself with sports and games. Difficulty with left and right is very common and dominance for either hand has also not established. In early grades of school music and dance are very often used to enhance academic learning but the child faces difficulty to tune himself with music and dance.

Auditory problems in dyslexia include a number of body functions. Generally it is difficult for the child to remember and understand what he hears. Recalling a sequence of things at a time for such child is often very difficult. Parts of words or whole sentences may be found missing and the words spoke by the child may often appear very funny. Although the children with such problem know very well what they want to say but are not able to express. Many subtle signs can be observed in children with this disorder. Children may often appear depressed. They often begin to distract their mind away from learning.

Suggestions for Parents When They Notice Signs and Symptoms of Dyslexia

The first step the parents must follow is that they must consult a pediatrician when their child is suffering from difficulties associated with learning numerals, letters and spelling and remembering them. Apart from this they can also meet the teacher of their child to know about child's performance in school and its activities. In general every school is having a specialized team of experts that regularly meets the parents of the children in order to make them aware about their child's progress and difficulties observed. This specialized team consists of principal, classroom teacher, school psychologist, nurse, speech therapist, reading specialist and other eminent professionals. A parent should always be included in this team. These teams are generally known as Students' Study Team or Child's Study Teams. Any parent of teacher noticing learning problems with any child may request to meet this team in order to discuss the problems associated with the child. The parent may often request to meet the specialists of this team even if the teacher finds that the child is doing well in the class. Sometimes some tests are performed in order to a make a decision and such tests should never be conducted without the permission of the parent.

If a child studying in any private school lacking the team of experts then he or she can be referred to public schools containing such teams so that the problem can be detected. If the problem still fails to be detected then health professionals are the only option for the detection of the problem.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of dyslexia is difficult and there are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration by the psychologist and the health professionals before reaching any conclusion. The test includes the functional reading level of the child and comparing it with the reading potential obtained by performing an intelligence test. The test further focuses on the information processing of the child. The test also determines whether the child learns information by hearing or looking at the information or by doing something. The test also evaluates whether the child performs better when a set of information is given to the child by saying something or by doing something by hands. The test also analyses how the sensory system in such child works when a set of information is provided. The tests are standardized and are considered reliable. The child should not feel disheartened as something bad is going to occur with him during the test. Many tests include game-type or puzzle format so that the child may feel comfortable. The child must take a good night's sleep and sufficient breakfast before carried out for the tests. If the testing is to be done in a classroom setting then the teacher must prepare the child for the test so that the child may feel comfortable during the test.

Treatment

Before undergoing any treatment evaluation must be done regarding the specific area of disability of the child. Although a number of theories have been predicted regarding the treatment of dyslexia but there is no actual cure against this disorder. The school can develop a plan after meeting the parents of the child in order to understand its need and if the plan fails to give successful results the child can be transferred to a school specially meant for dyslexic children for better care. Techniques have been designed where all the senses of the child can work together simultaneously at a time. Computers are the best tools that help the child to learn and understand better.

A Bollywood movie Taare Zameen Par orients around dyslexia where the child named Eshaan suffers from visual dyslexia and was taught and trained by his teacher.

Boot Camp - Be Prepared

The instructors of these classes are not there to coddle you while you give minimal effort. If you've ever watched the popular weight loss TV shows, you may already be somewhat familiar with the kind of atmosphere you're likely to face at one of these programs. The instructors want to see you succeed and they expect you to want that as well. While often tailored to beginners, they are not tailored to those who aren't ready to work out. Here's how you can be prepared for your first day.

Get and Stay Hydrated

While you don't want to drink so much water that you get a cramp or start to slow down because your belly is sloshing about, you don't want to run the risk of drinking too little. The effects (and dramatic induction of) dehydration has been largely overhyped for the average person. It can easily happen if you aren't used to doing vigorous physical activity. At a boot camp, you're likely to be exposed to an hour or more of nonstop exercise, which is something you may not be used to. Make sure you don't let your body down when it comes to replenishing lost fluids.

Change Your Attitude

If you're being "dragged" to boot camp by a friend or are going into the class with a, "Well, I don't have to do anything I don't want to do," kind of attitude, you need to adjust your way of thinking before entering the class. Remember that you're doing this for you. If you're doing it for any other reason, you may want to drop back and wait until you're properly motivated. The instructors are there to push you to your limits, but they are not there to make someone get healthy if they are determined to be lazy. Don't embarrass yourself, waste the instructor's time, or take away from your classmates by going in with the wrong attitude.

Focus on Your Breathing

There are lots of little things you can do to make vigorous exercise easier than it otherwise would be. One of the most important things is to breathe correctly. When you start doing things like holding your breath during exertion, you're not letting your body get the oxygen it needs to move forward. When that happens, your body will shut down fast. Concentrate on keeping your breathing steady and regular. It's going to be faster than you're used to, but that doesn't mean you can't get as much out of every breath as possible. Plus, if you concentrate on your breathing while at boot camp, you can distract yourself from the pain!

Useful Tips to Cure Body Odor

A widely accepted fact by now is that unpleasant body odor, or bromhidrosis, is caused frequently due to excessive perspiration from the eccrine or apocrine sweat glands. Further this aggravates the growth of bacteria on the upper layer of your body or skin. When it comes in contact with the sweat due to chemical reactions it emits a bad odor. There are various home methods easily available in your kitchen and bathroom to help you in overcoming this problem. Poor hygiene conditions, of course, is another reason for unpleasant smell or odor coming off the body. Dietary patterns are also one of the prominent factors.

After so much of discussion now the question is How to cure body odor? There have been several debates and researches conducted so far to get to the bottom of the problem, but factually there is no permanent solution to it because you are bound to sweat and bacteria on the body will generate the chemical reactions. Young men and women are prone to sweat more in comparison to the kids and elders. Bromhidrosis from the feet occurs when the thick, warm, sodden skin becomes a breeding ground for numerous bacteria. Eccrine bromhidrosis is a common occurrence in areas where skin contacts skin, especially between the thighs. It gets worse by obesity and diabetes. Lack of nutrients like Zinc is also a common cause for an unpleasant odor.

Although there is remedy for body odor which can help you in reducing the foul smell coming from your body and over a period helps in developing healthy habits. Below mentioned are few easy to do things which if put into practise can help in reducing the bad odor:

- Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day.

- Bath or shower at least twice daily and in summers you could increase the count.
- Use a good anti-bacterial soap or body wash for better results.
- Keep your clothes in a dry area where no dampness can moist your clean clothes giving a breeding ground to bacteria.
- Decide a day in a week to go on non spicy, low fat fibrous diet preferably fruits and green veggies.
- Make exercising and walking an essential part of your daily regime, it will reap good benefits as and when you age.
- Add white vinegar or rose water in your bath tub to give a fresh feel post bath and also helps in reducing odor.
- Make homemade deodorants and fragrances to avoid any chemical application on your skin for e.g. a herbal spray deodorant can be made by combining 5 drops of sage, coriander, and lavender essential oils with 2 ounces of distilled witch hazel. Remember to store it in the fridge and shake well before every use.
- Give nutritional supplements to curb odor like vitamin A, vitamin-B complex, vitamin C and zinc.
- Parsley is a very good source of chlorophyll, which helps in reducing odor, chewable tablets and gel is also available in the market if you don't like it in raw form.

Finding a full and permanent cure for body odor is slightly tough because so far no medication has been found to curb this problem. This is because it depends on a lot of factors like heredity, menopause, low level of male hormones, gastrointestinal diseases, anxiety, depression etc. But with the help of few homemade remedies and healthy life style you can definitely overcome the embarrassment caused by the bad body odor.

Motivation - The Key to Success

Motivation is the corner stone between the free trial junkie and the gym lover.

Of course it isn't as simple as that, people pick up and lose motivation as they go. It can even be as simple as a bad session, leading to the next day with people thinking 'ah my hamstrings are a little tight, I will give it a miss tonight.' There is obviously nothing wrong with them except they are lacing in motivation.

This is a huge topic, for people who work with the fitness industry but it is also one that creeps over into general well-being as well.

One remedy that can have a profound effect is training with constantly altering speeds, essentially interval training. They say variety is the spice of life and this is a good application for that theory. Start slow, work up to speed but don't be afraid to lower the speed, it isn't a failure to do that in order to keep training. It is more beneficial to keep going at a lower capacity and get a full workout, than to burn yourself out and have to stop for two days in a rest period. What is great about interval training is the variety of machines that you can look at including in your workout, Treadmills, Bikes or even Rowers.

Another one that I haven't mentioned yet is the Cross Trainers. This is a fantastic piece of kit and a good one to help motivation levels. The machines offer so much variety and programmability that there is something for everyone. You can do just lower body or include your upper body as well so it is hugely beneficial.

So there we are one method of motivation combat: variety.

When looking at motivation for the gym and you talk to the experts in the field it is difficult to find a clear answer, as they are all pretty motivated to workout! However, I did hear one little gem of insight, which was; 'If you don't want to go to the gym you will make any excuses, so it might be time to try something new altogether.' Which I think is a sound theory. People make excuses sometimes, but not always because they don't want to go to the gym, but because I just fancy a night off or something, which doesn't always mean a slippery slope to failure. But some people will make constant excuses and reasons as to why they can't or won't go, which means that if they are persuaded to go one night that it might be such a negative experience then it will be even more detrimental to their motivation.

So the solution can be: why not try something new. Why not go cycling or try Zumba? Or Cross Training instead of the Treadmill.

I really believe that to be motivated then you need to want to be doing what you're doing, even just a little bit, then the motivation is what brings that little bit out or makes it more prominent. If you are stone cold adverse to something, then no amount of motivation will help you achieve your goals. So rather than focusing on something that you hate then focus on finding something you will like! Some people want to train on a Treadmill and some people want to walk in the hills and some people even want to do both. Find something you love to do and motivation should follow!

What Makes Up Our Lungs?

Every part of your body is important in ensuring that you continue to live up day by day. Probably the most important ones are your heart and your brain, which provides the blood and the instructions for your body parts to function well. But one other essential organ in your body is of course the one that is responsible for your breathing. Of course, the complicated process of oxygen intake and carbon dioxide release is needed for you to keep alive.

Your lungs are composed of a complicated and intricate array of cells, tissues and nerves that enable the processing of your body's respiration. You have a pair of these lungs, with each part on either side of your heart. They are soft and sponge-like in nature. Your lungs are separated by fissures into three right and two left lobes that are further segmented into lobules. When you have chest X-rays, and you see hexagonal divisions, these lobules are visible. The lobes are surrounded by two pleurae: the parietal pleura located against your ribs and the visceral pleura at the surface area of the lungs. These pleurae are responsible for the providing your lungs lubrication to avoid tension between them and the ribs.

In your left lung, there is also the medically termed cardiac notch. If you would remember your basic anatomy, your heart is on the left side of your chest. As the heart needs to be given its own space in your chest area so that it would not be crushed by either of your lungs. This need for space is taken care of by the cardiac notch.

Both of your lungs are prone to bacterial and viral infection because these organs are always moist with the water and the oxygen they contain. Therefore you need to make sure that your lungs are kept healthy to avoid respiratory infections like pneumonia and bronchitis. It is also just as important that your lungs do not play host to most germs and bacteria because these foreign harmful objects can actually trickle down to your heart valves and cause an even greater problem.

Having perfectly working lungs is really essential because breathing is the be-all of your life. You have to remember that none of your organs would work well if they do not get enough oxygen from your lungs. Hence, always drink vitamins to keep your respiratory organ working well. If problem persists consult your doctor or your trusted osteopath.
